Today’s financial crisis has hit every economic layer of our state. Many people who are falling behind financially are people who have done everything right. But life events like job loss, divorce or illness – events that in a strong economy might have been surmountable – have left thousands of households at risk of foreclosure.
Throughout the summer, Rocky Mountain PBS, KUNC and KUVO will be partnering with the Colorado Foreclosure Hotline to direct Coloradans at risk of foreclosure to information and resources in their community.
The hotline has been in operation since 2006 and has a terrific track record. Four out of 5 people who go through their process experience a positive resolution. Best of all, it’s free, confidential and it’s available to anyone in any socioeconomic situation.
Foreclosures are at historic highs in Colorado. Completed foreclosures doubled from 2005 to 2007 (up from 12,699 to 25,054). They remained at 21,301 for 2008, and look to remain high into 2010. We’re working to get the word out about resources that can connect people to help.
So stay tuned for the short messages and stories that we’ll be broadcasting this summer on-air and online. The earlier help is received, the more options there are available.
